The Institute of Lifelong Learning [ILLL], University of Delhi was established in the year 2007 with a vision to foster learning in an ubiquitous and continuous manner. Lifelong learning aims to make use of a number of avenues for imparting knowledge throughout the life of an individual by employing a variety of platforms and resources. The vast nature of lifelong learning makes it all inclusive as it caters to the needs of a diverse group of learners. ILLL was incepted to create a learning environment which is well suited to the changing times and needs of the learners. The Institute aims at creating and sharing a platform where the vast knowledge and expertise of the academia can be nurtured and reached out to a larger student-teacher community.Development of the overall personality of individuals and honing their skills and capacities to make them self-reliant and sufficient is another vital goal of this institute. The learners are provided with good quality infrastructure and also learning resources and content which are meticulously developed by the experts of the academia. ILLL works with an approach to adapt itself with the changing times and needs. It also functions for the renewal of curriculum making it adaptable to the current digital world where multimedia resources of learning are used effectively.
ILLL has been deeply influenced by the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication and Technology (NME-ICT)which is a significant project undertaken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),Government of India to promote the use of ICT in education.Taking the vision and mission of NME-ICT forward, ILLL has set up DU-VLE- The Virtual Learning environment, which aims at promoting ICT based pedagogy and providing learners with high quality open educational resources. The focus groups of ILLL are not just the students of University but also the faulty members. This institute puts special emphasis on 'training the trainers' with its teacher education initiatives.Since its inception, ILLL has been organizing continuous professional development activities for the faculty of DU, opening avenues for collaborative learning and involving academia from across the globe so as to have an insight and exposure to the global standards of knowledge. At ILLL, we work for building a national as well as a global social network of academia for an exchange of expertise, ideas and innovations in the field of lifelong learning. This community of educators and specialists are not just involved in teaching and developing the content but also contributing towards research in the field of lifelong learning.
As a concluding remark, I wish to highlight the growing need and vitality of lifelong learning as espoused in the National Education Policy 2020 wherein special emphasis has been made on integrating technology for the education of all.. As educators and researchers it has become imperative for us to engage intellectually and contribute towards the goal of Lifelong Learning.
I invite all academic enthusiasts to contribute in ILLL and help the institute serve the goals with which it was established. I am sure that the inputs shared by all learned people will inspire the student community of the University to enrich and sustain education for life.
Best wishes
